FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – 99x, a global product engineering firm based in Sri Lanka, has joined forces in an effort to rehabilitate IT laboratories in schools that were affected by the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
The teams from 99x collaborated with the Prime Minister’s Office, SLASSCOM, and local school communities to identify three schools in Mahiyanganaya where they could set up new IT laboratories.
Volunteers from 99x traveled to Mahiyanganaya to carry out the restoration of IT facilities at Hebarawa Maha Vidyalaya, Bathalayaya Maha Vidyalaya, and Keselpotha Maha Vidyalaya.
Kalana Wijesekara, Chief Developer Experience Officer and representative of the 99x Corporate Relief Fund, expressed, “Technology is unlocking opportunities that were previously unattainable for many youths. We aspire for these IT labs to empower students to learn, realize their potential, and pursue successful careers in the future.”
The initiative involved equipping the laboratories with laptops, classroom furniture, and the necessary infrastructure to make them functional once again.
Prasana Monohara Jayathilaka, Principal of Hebarawa Maha Vidyalaya, Mahiyanganaya, noted, “This support will enable our students to enhance their computer literacy and practical skills through upgraded learning environments.”
The refurbished IT laboratories in Mahiyanganaya symbolize new opportunities for students to acquire knowledge, develop practical skills, and prepare for their future endeavors.
The facilities have been established, and volunteers from 99x are set to return to conduct IT sessions and knowledge-sharing activities, ensuring that students fully benefit from these enhanced learning environments. (Colombo/Aug11/2026)
