FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), said it plans to integrate its unified payments interface (UPI) in Sri Lanka.
The introduction of this system, in collaboration with LankaPay, will increase payment options for Indian travellers in Sri Lanka, NIPL said.
Indian tourists can make digital payments by scanning LankaQR through their UPI, reducing the need to carry excessive cash.
“We are creating payment corridors for India and Indians,” Ritesh Shukla, Managing Director and CEO, NPCI International, told reporters.
UPI facilities are available at Cinnamon Hotels, Taj Hotels, Barista, Keells and Odel.
NIPL said it has also discussed scaling UPI within the domestic payment system with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. (Colombo/March17/2026)
