Sri Lanka’s Cabinet has approved a proposal to co-host the Asian Regional Debt Management Conference in May 2026, Cabinet Spokesman Nalinda Jayatissa announced.

The conference, which is held annually by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), offers a platform for debt managers from ADB member countries to exchange experiences in public debt management, discuss current challenges, and enhance regional cooperation.

According to Minister Jayatissa, the 2026 conference is expected to take place over four to five days and will feature surveys and technical workshops focused on debt management operations, emerging challenges, and innovative approaches in the sector.

Participants will include representatives from ministries of finance, central banks, debt management offices, and other relevant institutions from ADB member countries.

“Hosting this conference will bring significant benefits such as enhancing Sri Lanka’s international reputation in public debt management, strengthening bilateral and regional relationships with Asian member countries and international financial institutions, as well as facilitating knowledge sharing and capacity building in debt management operations,” Minister Jayatissa said during the weekly cabinet briefing on Tuesday.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, to co-host the 2026 Asian Regional Debt Management Conference in Sri Lanka at the end of May 2026.
