Sri Lanka to host donor conference to raise rebuilding fund

Sri Lanka is set to host an international donor conference in January 2026 to mobilize funds for rebuilding and reconstruction efforts following the recent devastation in Ditwah, Deputy Finance Minister Anil Jayantha Fernando announced.

The estimated cost for the rebuilding process is up to USD 7 billion, although a final figure has not yet been established.

“At the most recent Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund meeting, we decided to organize a donor conference in January,” Minister Fernando said during a media briefing on Wednesday. He added that the event will take place in Sri Lanka, with further details to be provided in due course.

Analysts note that Sri Lanka is unlikely to manage the reconstruction on its own, as the country is still recovering from the unprecedented economic crisis of 2022. The government is currently under an IMF loan program and has also requested a USD 200 million Rapid Finance Instrument in the wake of the disaster.
