Sri Lanka Insurance Life Ltd and Sri Lanka Insurance General Ltd officially commenced their business operations for the year 2026 on January 1st at the Sri Lanka Insurance Head Office. The event was attended by the Chairman, Board members, Corporate Management, and staff of SLIC.
Simultaneously, parallel business launches took place at the branch level, with branch staff participating in the head office proceedings via live stream. The day’s program began with blessings from the four major religious faiths, symbolizing unity and goodwill for the year ahead.
Marking the start of the New Year, SLIC gathered all 142 branches for a unified celebration, lighting the traditional oil lamp as one family. During the festivities, the 2026 theme for SLICGL, ‘Leading the market, strengthening every step,’ was officially revealed.
Celebrating 64 years of service and expertise, SLIC remains Sri Lanka’s most respected and trusted name in insurance. Over the decades, the organization has led the sector, maintaining industry-wide growth and equity even during challenging times.
The year 2025 brought many significant achievements for SLICGL, although it ended with substantial challenges as the nation dealt with the aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah. Rising to the occasion, SLICGL honored claims and provided timely relief, offering protection and reassurance to communities affected by the disaster.
Reflecting on a remarkable year, SLICGL was ranked as Sri Lanka’s highest-rated insurance brand, being the only A+ Fitch rated insurer in the country. It became the first and only insurer to exceed Rs. 30 billion in Gross Written Premium. Additionally, SLICGL received Carbon Neutral Certification, underscoring its commitment to sustainability. SLICL was also recognized as the Most Valuable General Insurance Brand by Brand Finance.
The lifting of the vehicle import ban in January 2025 revitalized the automotive sector and reaffirmed SLICGL’s role as the nation’s most trusted insurer. By protecting new vehicle owners, SLICGL strengthened its portfolio, supported national growth, and helped families and businesses move forward with confidence.
In 2025, SLICGL continued its partnership with the Ministry of Education on the Suraksha Insurance Scheme, a national initiative aimed at securing the health and wellbeing of 4.5 million schoolchildren across the country.
