Sri Lanka’s coconut export revenue crosses USD 1 bn in Jan-Oct last year: Ministry

Sri Lanka has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing USD 1 billion in exports of coconut and coconut-based products within the first ten months of 2025, according to the Industries Ministry. The Export Development Board (EDB) reported that the annual export revenue reached USD 1,033.9 million from January to October 2025, marking a 43.83 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.

The Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe’s office at the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development highlighted the uniqueness of this achievement, noting that there is now a greater emphasis on exporting value-added products rather than just raw coconuts.

The Ministry attributed this success to the high global demand for products such as liquid coconut milk, virgin coconut oil, coconut cream, desiccated coconut (DC), activated carbon, and coco peat, which contributed to the increased export revenue.

Currently, coconut-based products account for 7.2% of Sri Lanka’s total exports. The Ministry also stated that they anticipate increasing the revenue to USD 2.5 billion by 2030.
