FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – Sri Lanka is set to implement its previously announced visa-free scheme starting from the first quarter of this year, according to Foreign and Foreign Employment Minister Vijith Herath.

The scheme, which was unveiled last year, has not yet been put into effect. Minister Herath confirmed, “It will be implemented from the first quarter of this year.”

In July of the previous year, Sri Lanka revealed plans to expand its list of countries exempt from paying ETA visa fees by adding 33 more nations. This initiative aims to support the recovery of the country’s tourism sector.

The new additions are in conjunction with countries such as China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, and Thailand. However, the government has encountered delays in issuing the necessary gazette for the visa-free scheme.
