Sri Lanka has achieved a significant milestone as its annual Workers’ Remittances (Inflows) surpassed the USD 8 billion mark for the first time in history in 2025. This achievement was highlighted in the latest data released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).

The Central Bank’s recent report indicates that the total Workers’ Remittances (Inflows) for 2025 reached USD 8.07 billion, marking a historic achievement for the nation. This figure represents a substantial 22.8% increase compared to the USD 6.57 billion recorded in 2024. Prior to this, the highest annual level of workers’ remittances was recorded in 2016, when inflows amounted to USD 7.24 billion.

Additionally, Sri Lanka set a new record for the highest-ever monthly Workers’ Remittances (Inflows) in December 2025, totaling USD 879.1 million. This surpasses the previous monthly record from December 2020, which stood at USD 812.7 million, maintaining its position as the highest monthly inflow on record until now.
