Sri Lanka and Germany Forge Agreement to Restructure €188 Million Debt

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – Sri Lanka has finalized an agreement with Germany for the restructuring of 188 million euros of debt, as announced by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

“Following bilateral discussions after the conclusion of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Official Creditor Committee (OCC), the Federal Republic of Germany has agreed to provide debt relief by rescheduling the outstanding debts,” the Ministry stated.

The bilateral agreement was signed by Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary of the Ministry, and Sarah Hasselbarth, German Chargé d’Affaires. (Colombo/Jan 15/2026)
