David Pieris Logistics (Private) Limited, previously known as D P Logistics (Pvt.) Limited and a part of the David Pieris Group of Companies, has launched Jaffna’s first purpose-built, multi-user logistics facility. This development marks a significant advancement in modern logistics infrastructure within Sri Lanka’s Northern Province.
The ceremonial opening was conducted by Mr. David Pieris, Founder and President of the David Pieris Group of Companies, and Mr. Rohana Dissanayake, Group Chairman and Managing Director, with the attendance of directors from various group companies.
Situated at No. 202/01, Kadduvan-Myliddy Road, Myliddy South, Kankesanthurai, Jaffna, close to the Palaly International Airport, this facility is the first of its kind in Jaffna and the Northern Region. It represents a significant investment by David Pieris Logistics in Northern Sri Lanka, bolstering private sector confidence in the region’s post-conflict economic recovery.
The facility is designed as a scalable, multi-user third-party logistics (3PL) hub, catering to industries such as FMCG, retail, agriculture, and manufacturing. It offers a range of services including warehousing, storage, material handling, value-added services, and regional distribution, providing businesses with reliable and cost-effective logistics solutions.
Strategically located near key transport hubs such as the Kankesanthurai Railway Station, Kankesanthurai Seaport, and Palaly International Airport, the facility ensures seamless connectivity across air, sea, and land transport networks. This strategic positioning enhances supply chain efficiency, reduces lead times, and lowers logistics costs for businesses operating in or serving Northern Sri Lanka, while also strengthening trade connections with the rest of the country.
The facility is also crucial for job creation and skills development in the region. It provides direct employment in areas such as warehouse operations, administration, transport coordination, and facility management, while generating indirect employment through transport providers, suppliers, maintenance services, and other support services. The exposure to modern warehouse management systems and global 3PL best practices will facilitate skills transfer and capacity building in the Northern Province.
In line with the sustainability principles of the David Pieris Group, the warehouse incorporates energy-efficient and environmentally responsible operational practices, demonstrating David Pieris Logistics’ commitment to sustainable logistics solutions.
Mr. Kalum Ketipearachchi, Managing Director and CEO of David Pieris Logistics, remarked that the Jaffna facility is expected to serve as a catalyst for regional economic growth. He emphasized that the development would empower local businesses, improve access to national markets, create employment opportunities, and enhance the Northern Province’s role in Sri Lanka’s broader supply chain ecosystem.
David Pieris Logistics provides comprehensive end-to-end integrated supply chain solutions across Sri Lanka. With nearly three decades of industry experience, the company has established a robust presence in warehousing, 3PL and 4PL services, container transportation, distribution, international freight forwarding, and project logistics. Supported by a workforce of over 400 logistics professionals, the company offers customized logistics solutions tailored to evolving business needs. Beyond Sri Lanka, David Pieris Logistics has expanded its ventures to Dubai, the Sultanate of Oman, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, further strengthening its international footprint.
By offering shared, professionally managed logistics infrastructure, the Jaffna facility reduces entry barriers for SMEs and regional producers, enabling them to effectively integrate into national and regional supply chains. This development aligns with national objectives to promote balanced regional growth and private sector-led investments beyond the Western Province.
The inauguration of this landmark facility highlights David Pieris Logistics’ long-term commitment to inclusive growth, regional development, and the enhancement of Sri Lanka’s logistics and trade infrastructure.
