Sri Lankan Rupee Declines as Bond Yields Show Slight Decrease

On Monday, the Sri Lankan rupee ended trading at 309.43/50 against the US dollar in the spot market, a slight change from Friday’s rate of 309.35/45, according to market dealers. Meanwhile, bond yields showed a downward trend across mid- to long-term maturities.

The yield on a bond maturing on December 15, 2026, settled at 8.20/30 percent, slightly decreasing from the previous 8.20/35 percent. Similarly, a bond due on September 15, 2027, closed at 8.55/60 percent, down from 8.55/65 percent.

A bond set to mature on May 1, 2028, maintained a yield of 9.03/05 percent, while a bond maturing on September 15, 2029, closed at 9.47/53 percent. The yield on a bond maturing on March 1, 2030, was 9.66/68 percent.

Additionally, the yield on a bond maturing on October 1, 2032, decreased to 10.17/21 percent, compared to the previous 10.18/22 percent. A bond due on June 1, 2033, saw its yield close at 10.50/54 percent, down from 10.50/55 percent.

The yield on a bond maturing on June 15, 2035, also declined, closing at 10.77/81 percent, down from 10.80/85 percent. Another bond maturing on the same date finished with a yield of 10.95/98 percent.
