ASPI Declines Sharply by Over 100 Points Amidst Slowing Turnover

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) experienced a decline in trading today, with the broader market weakening amid reduced investor activity. The All Share Price Index (ASPI) fell by 103.17 points, closing at 23,651.09. In contrast, the more liquid S&P SL20 Index showed relative stability among blue-chip stocks, experiencing only a slight decline of 3.27 points to end at 6,605.41.

Market turnover was significantly lower compared to recent sessions, amounting to Rs. 3.54 billion for the day. Local investors continued to dominate market activity, with purchases reaching Rs. 3.51 billion and sales totaling Rs. 3.04 billion. In comparison, foreign investor activity was subdued, with purchases amounting to Rs. 34 million, while sales were considerably higher at Rs. 500 million.
