BIOFACH, recognized as the world’s largest and most influential international trade fair dedicated to the organic sector, serves as a crucial global platform for countries to showcase their certified organic products and enhance their presence in international markets. In acknowledgment of this significance, Sri Lanka is set to participate in BIOFACH 2026, scheduled to take place in Nuremberg, Germany, from February 10th to 13th. This participation will feature a robust national presence organized by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) in collaboration with the National Organic Control Unit (NOCU).
The EDB will establish a Sri Lanka Country Pavilion, which will include a large, prominently placed stall with the participation of eight leading Sri Lankan organic exporters. These exporters are Mico Ceylon Organics (Pvt) Ltd, WICHY Plantation (Pvt) Ltd, Elhena Agro (Pvt) Ltd, Peoples Organization for Development Import & Export (PODIE), Ceylon Eco Spices (Pvt) Ltd, Ceylon Exports & Trading (Pvt) Ltd, Bespice (Pvt) Ltd, and Peal Isle Foods Exports (Pvt) Ltd. This platform offers these companies a valuable opportunity to present their products and engage directly with international buyers at this prestigious global trade event.
BIOFACH brings together exhibitors and trade visitors from around the world to explore the latest developments, innovations, and emerging trends in organic food and related sectors. Beyond serving as a marketplace, the exhibition provides extensive networking opportunities, business matchmaking, and knowledge exchange through its supporting programmes, including the BIOFACH congress, forums, trend sessions, and innovation stages.
Sri Lanka will display a diverse range of certified organic products, such as coconut kernel-based products, organic food and beverages, spices, tea, fruits and vegetables, and other value-added ingredients. Special attention will be given to the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) certified “Pure Organic Ceylon Cinnamon” alongside other premium Sri Lankan spices, highlighting the country’s rich agricultural heritage and its reputation as a trusted supplier of authentic and high-quality organic produce.
A dedicated promotional corner will showcase organic products from small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) through a Virtual SME Corner featuring 10 SME companies. This initiative aims to provide broader representation of Sri Lanka’s organic sector and enhance international visibility. Concurrently, an awareness campaign on Sri Lanka Organic will be launched to promote the Sri Lanka Organic Standard (SLS 1324) and the National Regulatory Framework governing organic production and certification.
Further enhancing the Sri Lanka Pavilion, live food demonstrations will be held for three consecutive days, starting from February 10th, to exhibit the versatility and quality of Sri Lankan organic ingredients. Additionally, Pure Ceylon Tea tasting sessions will be available throughout the exhibition, allowing visitors to experience the distinctive flavor and premium quality of Sri Lanka’s renowned tea.
During the event, the EDB and NOCU will engage in discussions with international bodies, including the UK Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the United Kingdom Trade Partnership (UKTP), aiming to strengthen cooperation, uplift Sri Lanka’s organic standards, and further refine the country’s organic regulatory framework in line with international best practices.
Participation in BIOFACH 2026 will provide Sri Lankan companies with increased international exposure, opportunities to establish business linkages with global buyers, and insights into evolving consumer preferences in the global organic market. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to expanding Sri Lanka’s organic exports while promoting sustainable agricultural practices and value-added production.
Through its participation at BIOFACH 2026, Sri Lanka seeks to reinforce its image as a reliable source of credible, certified organic products and to position itself as a competitive and trusted partner in the global organic trade, supported by strong national standards and a robust regulatory system.
