China recently organized a local training program in Kandy for Sri Lankan public officials, focusing on tropical food production and processing technologies. This initiative was in partnership with the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS) and the Department of External Resources (ERD).

According to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Finance, experts from CATAS conducted a series of technical sessions, offering global best practices, research-based insights, and practical experiences tailored to Sri Lanka’s agricultural context. The program aimed to provide Sri Lankan public officials with practical exposure and an opportunity to enhance their technical knowledge in tropical food production, processing technologies, and related innovations.

Participants from various agriculture-related government institutions took part in technical sessions, discussions, and knowledge-sharing activities throughout the two-week program. The ministry noted that the initiative not only strengthens institutional capacity and promotes the practical application of knowledge but also fosters deeper, mutually beneficial cooperation between Sri Lanka and China in agricultural sector development.

The Department of Agriculture coordinated the program.
