Sri Lanka Stocks Surge in Midday Trading

The Colombo Stock Exchange experienced an upward trend on Wednesday, as indicated by data from the CSE. The All Share Price Index increased by 0.13 percent, equivalent to 30.96 points, reaching 23,913.78. However, the S&P SL20 saw a decline of 0.32 percent, or 21.49 points, settling at 6,730.20. The market turnover was recorded at 2.37 billion rupees.

Hatton National Bank emerged as the top contributor to the All Share Price Index by midday, with its stock priced at 455.25 rupees, reflecting a 0.77 percent increase. The bank recently announced the retirement of its chairman, Nihal Jayawardene, effective March 31, and the subsequent appointment of Suresh Shah as chairman starting April 1.
