IMF Managing Director Advocates for Structural Reforms During Sri Lanka Visit

FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), currently visiting Sri Lanka, has held discussions with Central Bank Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe and other senior officials.

According to a statement from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), Georgieva recognized Sri Lanka’s achievements under the ongoing IMF program as a “success story.” She noted the repeated challenges Sri Lanka has encountered in recent years and expressed confidence in the country’s potential for higher growth, conditional upon the implementation and maintenance of necessary structural reforms.

Furthermore, Georgieva acknowledged the Central Bank’s pivotal role in restoring macroeconomic stability following the economic crisis. In response, the governor expressed gratitude to the IMF for its extensive technical assistance in various areas, including monetary policy and modeling, macroprudential analysis, and financial sector policies.
