WindForce PLC is pleased to announce that it has received the Letters of Award on February 16, 2026, for twelve standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. These projects were secured through an international competitive bidding process conducted by the Ceylon Electricity Board.

These initiatives are part of Sri Lanka’s inaugural grid-scale standalone BESS program, representing the largest undertaking of its kind in the country to date. The program aims to enhance national grid stability while facilitating increased integration of renewable energy into the power system.

The twelve projects will collectively provide a total installed capacity of 120 megawatts and 480 megawatt-hours of energy storage. They will be developed as standalone BESS facilities under the Build, Own, and Operate model. Each project will operate under a fifteen-year contract, supporting long-term system reliability, effective peak demand management, and improved grid flexibility.

Among the awarded projects, eleven will be solely owned and developed by WindForce PLC, while the Vavunathivu project will be executed through a consortium between WindForce PLC and Vidullanka PLC. This collaboration further enhances local expertise and delivery capability within Sri Lanka’s evolving energy sector.

As Sri Lanka’s first dedicated battery energy storage initiative, this program represents a significant advancement in modernizing the national grid. Standalone BESS facilities will be pivotal in frequency regulation, system resilience, and the efficient use of renewable energy resources as wind and solar capacities expand.

WindForce remains committed to delivering these landmark projects to the highest technical and operational standards, closely collaborating with stakeholders to support Sri Lanka’s transition towards a reliable, resilient, and renewable-energy-driven future. The company looks forward to contributing long-term value to the national power system through responsible infrastructure development in the years ahead.
