FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – Sri Lanka’s central bank is actively promoting digital payments to both businesses and the general public in Kurunegala. This initiative involves collaboration with licensed banks, finance companies, mobile e-money operators, and LankaPay.
The campaign will see participating financial institutions assisting businesses in becoming LANKAQR merchants. They will also help the public register for various digital payment services, including mobile payment apps and online banking facilities, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
CBSL Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe, along with other senior officials, is scheduled to attend the event on February 20 and 21. This initiative is part of a broader nationwide campaign to promote digital payments, which has already been successfully conducted in Hambantota, Nuwara Eliya, and Dambulla.
Retailers in Kurunegala will be actively participating in the campaign, encouraging their customers to switch to digital payment methods. CBSL has extended an invitation to the public and business community to seize this opportunity to gain a better understanding of digital payments and experience the convenience and security they offer. Personalized guidance and assistance from the participating financial institutions will be available.
