Ceylinco Life is expanding its Classroom Development Programme by funding the construction of two new classroom buildings in the Ampara and Galle Districts. This initiative builds on the company’s longstanding commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure, having already constructed 89 classrooms.
In a significant step forward, foundation stones were recently laid at Udayagiriya Vidyalaya in Ampara and Gallandala Kanishta Vidyalaya in Galle. These new facilities will replace existing makeshift learning environments with properly constructed classrooms.
Both schools, which currently depend on temporary shelters, will benefit from a 20 x 20ft classroom designed to offer a safe, durable, and engaging learning space for students. Udayagiriya Vidyalaya, serving 160 students with a staff of 20, will see improvements for its Grade 8 learners. Similarly, Gallandala Kanishta Vidyalaya, with 138 students and 18 teachers, will enhance its facilities for Grade 10 students.
These projects underscore Ceylinco Life’s dedication to uplifting schools in remote areas lacking adequate infrastructure. The Classroom Development Programme identifies schools in need through its extensive network, collaborates with local communities, and oversees construction progress meticulously.
Once completed, each classroom is maintained by the company to ensure it continues to benefit future generations. Since the first classroom was built at Tissa Primary School in Lunugamvehera in 2004, Ceylinco Life has been instrumental in providing purpose-built classrooms across the country, replacing inadequate learning spaces.
