FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – An agreement between Sri Lanka’s Export Development Board and Germany’s Import Promotion Desk is set to be signed to enhance bilateral cooperation, as announced by Minister Nalinda Jayatissa.

Minister Jayatissa stated, “The agreement will assist Sri Lankan exporters in the natural raw materials and IT outsourcing sectors, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises and women-led businesses, to improve their access to the German and European markets.” This initiative is aimed at boosting Sri Lankan exports by leveraging the opportunities in these regions.

Sri Lanka already maintains a long-standing formal agreement with Germany’s Import Promotion Desk. The forthcoming agreement will expand on existing trade promotion efforts and introduce new areas of focus, thereby strengthening the collaborative ties between the two nations.

The Cabinet has given its approval for the proposal to formalize this agreement, marking a significant step forward in economic cooperation. Colombo, February 24, 2026.
