The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has dispatched a team to Sri Lanka to evaluate the country’s national export development strategy for the period of 2026 to 2030, according to an announcement from the government.
The ADB representatives engaged with officials from the Export Development Board, addressing several topics, including the necessity of securing Cabinet endorsement for the National Export Development Plan, assessing its advancement, and pinpointing the technical support anticipated from the ADB for the plan’s second phase.
Furthermore, the discussions encompassed the framework necessary for the effective execution of the National Export Development Plan.
The primary objective of this initiative is to bolster Sri Lanka’s trade competitiveness and expand its export markets, as noted in the statement. Additionally, the formation of a high-level steering committee, the creation of a Project Management Unit (PMU), and establishing a comprehensive reporting system to track progress were also key points of discussion.
