MANILA, PHILIPPINES — In response to the swift advancements in technology, governments throughout Asia and the Pacific are striving to adapt, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is unveiling a new digital strategy aimed at enabling nations to leverage artificial intelligence and digital innovations while also safeguarding vulnerable populations.
“A technological revolution is unfolding across Asia and the Pacific,” stated ADB President Masato Kanda. “We have the opportunity to harness this wave for increased prosperity or risk being overwhelmed by it. ADB is committed to utilizing these significant shifts to benefit those who stand to gain the most, exemplified by our $20 billion Asia-Pacific Digital Highway initiative designed to enhance digital infrastructure, connectivity, and accessibility throughout the region.”
The newly developed digital transformation strategy will steer ADB’s initiatives from 2026 to 2030. Titled Digital Transformation for Development: Advancing Inclusion, Security, and Innovation, the strategy focuses on aiding countries in broadening digital connectivity, enhancing skill development, bolstering cybersecurity and privacy safeguards, refining data governance, and promoting the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
This support will encompass the establishment of robust digital infrastructure, the creation of secure and interoperable systems, and initiatives aimed at ensuring that digital advancements reach underprivileged communities. ADB will collaborate with nations to pinpoint shortcomings in their digital readiness and formulate investments and reforms tailored to their specific requirements.
Additionally, ADB plans to unite governments, private sector entities, and development partners to mobilize funding, share knowledge, and enhance access to effective digital solutions. This strategy addresses the increasing importance of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in driving economic competitiveness, improving public services, creating jobs, fostering resilience, and promoting social inclusion across the Asia-Pacific region.
