Allianz SE, headquartered in Munich, Germany, has announced a donation of €200,000 to support disaster relief initiatives in Sri Lanka. Additionally, the company is extending its assistance to Thailand and Indonesia, contributing a further €400,000 to aid relief efforts throughout Southeast Asia. The region has recently experienced devastating torrential rainfall, resulting in severe flooding and landslides that have claimed more than 1,100 lives within a week and left hundreds missing, complicating rescue operations.

Allianz has strong local presence in Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Indonesia, serving millions of customers across Asia. By providing support to affected individuals and communities, Allianz reaffirms its commitment to securing the future of its stakeholders during times of crisis.

Of the total commitment to Sri Lanka, €100,000 will be allocated to the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society (SLRCS) to deliver immediate assistance to those most affected by the disaster. An additional €100,000 will be dedicated to post-disaster support, implemented in collaboration with Allianz Insurance Lanka Limited and selected local partners. This support will focus on disaster prevention and climate resilience, helping communities rebuild and enhance their preparedness for future events.

Renate Wagner, Member of the Board of Management of Allianz SE, responsible for Asia Pacific, Mergers & Acquisitions, People and Cultures, stated:

“At Allianz, we stand with the people and communities affected by the severe floods and landslides across Southeast Asia. Through immediate relief and long-term resilience support, we aim to help families recover, strengthen local communities, and better prepare for future climate-related events.”

Anusha Thavarajah, Regional Chief Executive Officer of Allianz Asia Pacific, added:

“Across Indonesia, Thailand and Sri Lanka, many families and communities are facing significant loss and disruption. In moments like these, Allianz stands alongside them. Asia Pacific is home to our people, our customers, and the communities we serve, and we remain deeply committed to the region. Our immediate focus is on providing relief where it is most needed, while also supporting communities to rebuild and strengthen resilience, so those most affected can move forward with confidence.”

Allianz views Asia as a strategic growth region, with established strong market positions throughout Southeast Asia. In addition to Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka, Allianz operates various business segments in China, India, Malaysia, Singapore, and other countries in the region.

Prashant Grover, CEO and Country Manager of Allianz Insurance Lanka Limited, commented:

“The recent floods have had a devastating impact on communities across Sri Lanka, underscoring the urgent need for rebuilding and resilience. In these times, our priority at Allianz Lanka is to enable societies to recover faster and safeguard lives and livelihoods for the future. Through relief efforts supported by Allianz Group, we are helping communities regain stability and build strength for the long term.”

As Sri Lanka transitions from emergency response to recovery, Allianz’s support reflects a broader commitment to helping communities rebuild stronger and become better prepared for future challenges. By combining immediate humanitarian aid with long-term initiatives focused on resilience building, disaster risk reduction, and climate adaptation, Allianz continues to address the evolving challenges posed by extreme weather events. This integrated approach aims to facilitate sustainable recovery, not only restoring what was lost, but also strengthening communities to withstand future shocks.
