Apple has unveiled the iPhone Duo, a revolutionary foldable smartphone that combines elegance, functionality, and durability, offering users a fresh yet familiar experience. When opened, the iPhone Duo boasts a 7.6-inch inner display, marking it as the slimmest iPhone to date, perfect for enjoying content, gaming, and multitasking. The display features a unique nano-texture finish that significantly reduces glare, enhancing the overall viewing experience. When closed, the device presents a 5.4-inch outer display, which retains 90 percent of the screen area found in the iPhone 18 Pro while maintaining a compact and portable form factor. Both screens share the same aspect ratio, ensuring that content maintains visual consistency and scales proportionally. With a robust design and a precision-engineered hinge, the iPhone Duo promises a tactile and satisfying experience during use.
Powered by the advanced A20 Pro chip, the iPhone Duo incorporates an innovative thermal management system with a custom vapor chamber and a dual-battery setup, delivering outstanding performance and remarkable battery life throughout the day. The enhanced camera system allows for stunning photography and videography, with the foldable design enabling unique shooting methods not available on previous iPhone models. The new iOS 27 has been thoughtfully redesigned to maintain its intuitive nature while accommodating the diverse interactions possible with the iPhone Duo. Additionally, features such as Apple Intelligence and Siri AI integrate powerful AI capabilities with personalized user experiences.
The iPhone Duo is offered in two sophisticated colors: star white and night sky. Pre-orders will commence on Friday, October 16, with the device available in stores starting Friday, October 23.
John Ternus, Apple’s CEO, stated, “The iPhone Duo represents the most significant evolution of the iPhone since its inception. Its groundbreaking design and intuitive features redefine the concept of a foldable phone. With the largest display ever featured on an iPhone that still easily fits in a pocket, combined with the A20 Pro’s power, the iPhone Duo enhances your productivity and entertainment experience, whether you are engaging with content, multitasking, or gaming.”
The iPhone Duo features an innovative dual-display setup. When closed, it is designed for comfortable one-handed operation and fits conveniently in pockets, showcasing a 5.4-inch outer Super Retina XDR display that offers 90 percent of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro. Once opened, the device reveals a 7.6-inch inner Super Retina XDR display that is 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max, providing an expansive canvas for various activities. The premium nano-texture finish minimizes glare and reflections, creating a smooth surface that reduces the visibility of creases. A concealed FaceTime camera remains hidden when not in use, ensuring an uninterrupted screen experience. Both displays maintain the same aspect ratio, enhancing user experience whether the device is open or closed. The displays are equipped with ProMotion technology, Always On functionality, and peak outdoor brightness of 3000 nits. Furthermore, later this year, the iPhone Duo will support Apple Pencil via USB-C, allowing users to take notes, sketch, or annotate documents seamlessly.
Touch ID has been integrated into the side button, enabling secure and convenient authentication whether the device is open or closed. Additionally, users can unlock the iPhone Duo using their Apple Watch. The design also incorporates Camera Control for quick access to the camera, featuring a new Siri Camera mode that allows Siri to see what the user sees, facilitating interactive responses and actions.
Durability is a hallmark of the iPhone Duo’s design. Constructed from grade 5 titanium, the iPhone Duo ensures remarkable strength, complemented by an elegant mirror-polished finish and a 3D-printed hinge cover with a contrasting micro-blasted texture. The back of the device is protected by Ceramic Shield, while the front features Ceramic Shield 2, which offers three times better scratch resistance than its predecessor. The device is also rated IP68 for splash, water, and dust resistance. The hinge consists of over 100 components, precisely engineered to facilitate smooth opening and closing while supporting the center of the display. Internally, support ribs enhance structural integrity, and antenna splits with ceramic fiber inserts bolster frame rigidity.
The inner display is engineered for durability against daily wear. A scratch-resistant coating, alongside a custom polymer nano-textured cover layer, provides up to 40 percent higher stiffness compared to other materials in the industry. High-strength glass is positioned above and below the folding display panel, utilizing custom adhesives that allow the layers to move past each other smoothly, minimizing bending stress, while a titanium plate at the bottom further boosts durability.
In summary, the iPhone Duo represents a significant advancement in smartphone technology, merging innovative design with high-level functionality to enhance user experience.
