BOC Launches Pioneering Tap & Pay Mobile Wallet Service in Sri Lanka

Bank of Ceylon (BOC), recognized as Sri Lanka’s largest and most dependable commercial bank, has made a notable advancement in the nation’s digital banking sector with the introduction of BOC Flex – Tap & Pay, the country’s inaugural mobile wallet for contactless payments.

Following the successful rollout of its advanced Internet and Mobile Banking platform, BOC Flex, in March 2025, the bank continues to spearhead the digital transformation of Sri Lanka’s financial services by offering innovative and customer-focused banking solutions. The introduction of Tap & Pay on July 9, 2026, represents a significant achievement in this ongoing effort, allowing customers to perform secure and convenient contactless transactions directly through the BOC Flex app.

The launch event was attended by prominent figures including the Hon. Minister of Labour, the Deputy Minister of Finance, the Hon. Minister of Digital Economy, representatives from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, and officials from Mastercard, along with the Chairman, CEO, and the bank’s executive management team. This gathering underscored the national importance of this groundbreaking development in Sri Lanka’s digital banking sector.

Tap & Pay features a secure digital wallet that incorporates virtual card technology, enabling users to conduct quick, safe, and seamless contactless payments at NFC-enabled Point-of-Sale (POS) systems and online merchants via the BOC Flex mobile banking application.

In his remarks, Mr. Kavinda De Zoysa, the Chairman of Bank of Ceylon, stated, “At Bank of Ceylon, we are dedicated to shaping the future of banking through investments in technology that deliver significant value to our customers and the nation. BOC Flex Wallet offers customers a secure and user-friendly platform to manage their digital finances. Users can transfer funds between their BOC accounts and the wallet, pay bills, send money to other BOC accounts, and settle outstanding BOC credit card dues. Additionally, the wallet acts as a funding source for the BOC Flex Virtual Card, facilitating secure contactless payments. The Auto Top-Up feature ensures a continuous payment experience by automatically transferring funds from a linked BOC account when the wallet balance is low.

The BOC Flex Virtual Card enhances flexibility and security by allowing contactless payments at NFC-enabled POS terminals and safe online transactions. Customers can create and manage up to three virtual cards, easily suspend or reactivate cards using self-service options, and switch funding sources as needed.

The launch of BOC Flex – Tap & Pay is in line with Sri Lanka’s national agenda to accelerate the adoption of digital payments and broaden access to secure financial services. By offering straightforward, dependable, and cardless payment solutions, this innovation fosters financial inclusion and encourages more widespread use of cashless transactions throughout the nation.

BOC remains committed to serving its customers through over 2,500 service points across Sri Lanka, including branches, BOC Connect locations, Digi Centres, ATMs, CRMs, and CDMs, while also maintaining an international presence in India, the Maldives, Seychelles, and the United Kingdom. The bank’s dedication to excellence has earned it a place among the World’s Top 500 Banking Brands.

BOC’s leadership in digital banking has been recognized on a global scale, notably at the Digital CX Awards 2026 in Singapore, where BOC Flex became the first Sri Lankan banking application to win significant international accolades, securing three prestigious awards for customer experience and digital banking excellence. These achievements build on the platform’s previous successes at the National ICT Awards 2025, the National Project Management Excellence Awards, and the LankaPay Technovation Awards, further solidifying BOC’s pioneering position in Sri Lanka’s digital banking transformation.

The launch of BOC Flex – Tap & Pay signifies another key milestone in Bank of Ceylon’s digital transformation efforts, reaffirming its commitment to providing innovative, secure, and customer-centric banking solutions while shaping the future of digital payments in Sri Lanka.
