The purpose of their meeting was to explore the feasibility of introducing Boeing 777-9 operations by Emirates in Sri Lanka.
The discussion was also joined by Capt. Lasantha Dahanayake, Deputy Director General of Flight Safety Regulation, and Mr. Dushyantha Ratnayake, Director of Aircraft Registration and Airworthiness.
This meeting represented the preliminary phase of dialogue regarding the regulatory, airworthiness, airport, and operational stipulations necessary for integrating the Boeing 777-9 into Sri Lanka’s aviation framework. The attendees reviewed essential procedures and relevant criteria that would need to be addressed if Emirates decides to operate the aircraft within Sri Lankan airspace.
The Boeing 777-9 is the largest variant in Boeing’s next-generation 777X series, designed specifically for long-haul international service. This aircraft features cutting-edge technology aimed at enhancing fuel efficiency, operational performance, and passenger comfort.
Among its innovative attributes are folding wingtips, which enable the aircraft’s expansive wingspan to fit within current airport gate and taxiway limits while also improving aerodynamic efficiency during flight. This model signifies the latest advancement in Boeing’s well-established 777 family.
CAASL expressed its willingness to facilitate the operation of the Boeing 777-9 in Sri Lanka, contingent upon meeting all necessary regulatory, airworthiness, operational, and safety standards.
The introduction of the Boeing 777-9 by Emirates could significantly bolster Sri Lanka’s ability to accommodate modern wide-body aircraft and enhance the nation’s international air connectivity.
CAASL is dedicated to collaborating with prominent international airlines and aircraft manufacturers to foster further growth within Sri Lanka’s aviation industry, all while upholding the highest levels of regulatory compliance and aviation safety.
