BYD, along with its authorized distributor in Sri Lanka, John Keells CG Auto (JKCG Auto), has marked a significant achievement by reaching 20,000 vehicle services since starting operations last year.
This milestone highlights the rapid acceptance of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in Sri Lanka, alongside the ongoing commitment of JKCG Auto to establish a comprehensive after-sales service infrastructure across the island to meet this growing demand.
Since the resumption of vehicle imports just over a year ago, BYD has secured nearly 37% of all new vehicle registrations and more than 70% of the total electric vehicle registrations in the country.
In response to this remarkable growth, JKCG Auto has made substantial investments to enhance its after-sales network, which currently includes service centers in Colombo, Wattala, Kandy, Galle, Kurunegala, and Ampara.
Following its latest expansion, JKCG Auto is now capable of servicing over 200 vehicles daily, supported by a team of more than 150 certified after-sales professionals. The network is bolstered by Sri Lanka’s largest dedicated body shop located in Seeduwa, which can accommodate over 100 vehicles simultaneously. Additionally, the company has installed over 43 fast charging stations nationwide and provides customers with a 7kW home charger, ensuring that BYD owners have convenient charging options wherever they travel.
During his visit to Sri Lanka for this occasion, Peter Feng, BYD’s General Manager Assistant and Director of After-sales Service Center for the Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division, remarked, “Sri Lanka has become a crucial market in BYD’s journey in South Asia, with an EV adoption rate surpassing our expectations.” He further stated, “Achieving 20,000 successful services in just one year is an extraordinary accomplishment that reinforces our belief in John Keells CG Auto as the right partner in this venture. Witnessing their operations firsthand, we are eager to further enhance our after-sales support and strengthen our commitment to customers in Sri Lanka.”
Charith Panditharatne, the CEO of JKCG Auto, expressed, “From the onset of our partnership with BYD, we were confident that this brand would connect with the people of Sri Lanka. However, the demand we have experienced since the resumption of vehicle imports has exceeded all our initial forecasts. This surge in demand has motivated us to accelerate our growth and improve our services. We are dedicated to maintaining this momentum and establishing a standard of after-sales excellence that sets a benchmark in Sri Lanka and South Asia.”
JKCG Auto is enhancing its after-sales service reputation with 24-hour roadside assistance across the island, a 10,000 sqm spare parts warehouse with just-in-time delivery capabilities, and plans to open additional service centers in Negombo, Anuradhapura, and Jaffna, thereby supporting the sustainable mobility transition in Sri Lanka.
