BYD, a prominent global manufacturer of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), in collaboration with its official distributor in Sri Lanka, John Keells CG Auto, has unveiled its ninth showroom in Batticaloa, marking an expansion of its presence on the East Coast.
The new showroom is situated at 556 D Trinco Road and operates in conjunction with Harry Traders. This addition to BYD’s retail and service network enhances its reach, which already includes locations in Colombo, Galle, Kurunegala, Kandy, Ampara, and Rathnapura. The latest establishment strengthens BYD’s foothold in the Eastern Province, making its advanced electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles more accessible to customers throughout the area.
Residents of Batticaloa can anticipate the same dependable service and vehicle options that BYD is renowned for in its existing locations. Initially, the showroom will serve as a display center, with plans to incorporate service and spare parts facilities in the future. The showroom will showcase a variety of BYD models, including the BYD SEALION 5, BYD SEALION 6, BYD SEALION 8, BYD ATTO 1, BYD ATTO 2, and BYD DOLPHIN.
Charith Panditharatne, the Chief Executive Officer of JKCG Auto, emphasized the significance of every new showroom, stating, “Each new opening signifies our commitment to making new energy mobility accessible to all Sri Lankans, no matter where they are on the island. Batticaloa is home to a burgeoning and aspirational community, and we are thrilled to deliver BYD’s premium offerings directly to them through our collaboration with Harry Traders.”
Thavabalan Harry Prathab, CEO of Harry Traders, expressed pride in representing BYD in Batticaloa, highlighting the shift in local attitudes towards driving. “The Eastern Province demonstrates a strong demand for quality and innovation, and BYD fulfills these expectations. We are eager to introduce our community to a new benchmark in vehicle ownership,” he remarked.
In alignment with its goal of fostering a robust NEV infrastructure, Keells, through its GreenEV partnership, has installed 46 fast chargers across the country and recently formed a strategic alliance with Green EV, which adds another 83 chargers to the network. This initiative results in a total of 129 public charging stations distributed across all nine provinces of Sri Lanka. Furthermore, every BYD and Denza customer is provided with a home charger, ensuring a smooth charging experience from the outset. This expanding infrastructure, which includes the Eastern Province, supports BYD’s long-term sustainability objectives and enhances convenience for NEV owners nationwide.
With the launch of its Batticaloa location, BYD is dedicated to increasing access to NEVs and expanding service coverage throughout Sri Lanka.
