The 13th iteration of the CFA Society Sri Lanka Capital Market Awards is set to take place on September 10, 2026, at the Oak Room in the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo. This prestigious event serves as the Society’s primary venue for acknowledging and honoring excellence within Sri Lanka’s capital markets, consistently promoting the highest levels of professionalism and adherence to industry best practices.
Kithma Gamalath, CFA, who chairs the project for the awards, emphasizes the significance of developing professionals who are prepared for the future of capital markets. She remarks, “The landscape of capital markets is continually changing, and it is essential for professionals to evolve with it. The profession has undergone remarkable transformations over the past 25 years. As we commemorate a quarter-century of progress, we must also focus on cultivating the next generation of leaders in the market.”
Gamalath encourages participants to engage in ongoing skill enhancement and to remain pertinent in the face of shifting investor expectations. She highlights the necessity of gaining insights into emerging trends, including artificial intelligence (AI), environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues, sustainability reporting, digital finance, and evolving regulations.
“The essence of the Awards is to foster continuous improvement—not merely to acknowledge past achievements. Consequently, judges assess beyond technical capabilities, focusing on research that is timely, actionable, insightful, and relevant for investors. We welcome increased participation from research firms, publicly listed companies, investor relations teams, and the unit trust sector,” she adds with enthusiasm.
Aruna Alwis, CEO of CFA Society Sri Lanka, reflects on the forthcoming event, stating, “CFA Society Sri Lanka has a rich history of 25 years dedicated to serving the investment community through education, advocacy, and professional growth. The Awards play a vital role in uniting the entire capital market ecosystem, including regulators, publicly listed firms, stockbrokers, analysts, fund managers, investor relations experts, and CFA charterholders.”
Alwis further notes, “The CFA Society Sri Lanka Capital Market Awards have played a crucial role in elevating standards in investment research, investor relations, transparency practices, and corporate governance. Additionally, the Awards complement the Society’s comprehensive initiatives in education, certifications, and ongoing professional development.”
He comments on the consistent involvement across various award categories, viewing it as a clear indication of the industry’s dedication to enhancing standards, and he wishes all participants success this year.
Rashmi Peiris-Paranavitane, CFA and President of CFA Society Sri Lanka, remarks on the substantial legacy of the awards, asserting that “the CFA Capital Market Awards have established themselves as a standard for excellence within Sri Lanka’s capital markets over the past 13 years.”
“This year also marks 25 years of CFA Society Sri Lanka’s influence on the capital markets of the country. The Society has adapted alongside these markets, taking on a more significant role in promoting corporate governance and transparency,” she states.
While congratulating the participants and motivating them to pursue excellence and innovation, she emphasizes, “The Awards represent more than mere recognition; they honor the professionals and organizations that are contributing to the development of stronger and more transparent capital markets. They also reinforce the behaviors and standards essential for maintaining a resilient and internationally competitive capital market.”
Awards will be conferred in categories including Best Equity Research Team, Best Equity Research Report, Best Sector Report, Best Investor Relations Team, and Best Unit Trust Team, with Gold, Silver, and Bronze distinctions available within each category.
