The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce welcomed a business delegation from the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) of India on August 4th, facilitating direct interactions between Sri Lankan firms and businesses from Kerala. This initiative aims to uncover new commercial prospects and enhance connections in the private sector.
Founded in 1857, the Cochin Chamber is one of the oldest business organizations in India, representing a diverse array of industries and actively contributing to regional economic development.
The visiting group included CCCI President Vinodini Sukumar, former President C. S. Kartha, various CCCI officials, and prominent Indian business figures. They engaged with Krishan Balendra, Chairperson of the Ceylon Chamber, along with Secretary General and CEO Shiran Fernando, Deputy Secretary General, Chief Operating Officer, and Financial Controller Alikie Perera, among other representatives from the Ceylon Chamber. The delegation also took part in a business-to-business networking session with Sri Lankan companies to identify collaborative opportunities.
These discussions served as a valuable forum for representatives and business leaders from both nations to share insights on market prospects, emerging trends, and potential areas for enhanced cooperation. Collaborative ventures were considered in sectors such as logistics, trade, healthcare products, cold storage, advertising, and the tea industry.
The meeting underscored the expanding industrial and service sectors in Kerala, bolstered by a robust pool of skilled professionals. Delegates exchanged views on the advantages stemming from this talent base and explored how businesses in both countries could harness their complementary strengths to foster stronger regional ties.
In addition to immediate trade discussions, the conversations also delved into broader collaborative possibilities, including investment opportunities, technology partnerships, knowledge sharing, and business services. This reflects the increasing significance of robust private-sector relationships between Sri Lanka and India.
