FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SGCCI) from Surat, India, have reaffirmed their collaboration through a renewed agreement aimed at enhancing business relations between Sri Lanka and Gujarat.
This renewal reflects the desire of businesses from both regions to pursue more targeted avenues for trade, investment, and commercial partnerships, according to the chamber.
The updated memorandum of understanding (MoU) was formalized during a visit by a delegation from SGCCI to Colombo.
The delegation encompassed various sectors, including textiles and apparel, textile materials, garment accessories, manufacturing and industrial goods, as well as gems and jewellery, waste management, waste-to-energy solutions, information technology, spices, and processed food.
During discussions on textiles and apparel, the focus was on how suppliers from Gujarat could collaborate with Sri Lanka’s apparel manufacturers. Additionally, manufacturers of garment accessories and industrial products assessed potential supply and distribution partnerships.
The visiting delegation also showed interest in acquiring Sri Lankan sapphires and other gemstones while seeking to establish connections with local jewellery manufacturers, industry associations, and women entrepreneurs.
Conversations further touched on investment and technological opportunities, including waste-to-energy innovations and advancements in digital technology, along with trade prospects in spices and processed food.
Both chambers are committed to facilitating business-to-business interactions, exchanging market and industry insights, and aiding companies from Sri Lanka and Gujarat in exploring opportunities within each other’s markets. (Colombo/Aug7/2026)
