FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – The private sector trade association of Sri Lanka recently held a meeting with Belarusian Ambassador Mikhail Kasko to explore potential enhancements in trade relations between the two nations.
During the meeting, the two parties discussed various sectors that could mutually benefit from collaboration. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce highlighted Belarus’s strengths in areas such as machinery, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals, which could pair well with Sri Lanka’s expertise in apparel, tea, coconut products, spices, and fresh produce.
Ambassador Kasko pointed out that establishing direct air links could significantly boost tourism and facilitate the trade of fresh produce, an area he believes holds considerable promise.
Earlier this year, during Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath’s visit to Belarus, the two countries formalized several agreements focused on cooperation in health care and education, as well as a bilateral Air Services Agreement.
Additionally, last year marked the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Belarus.
