Champions of the 10th Huawei ICT Competition for the APAC Region Announced at ASEAN Headquarters

The ASEAN Headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia, recently hosted the 10th Huawei ICT Competition APAC Finals and Awards Ceremony, which brought together students, educators, and government officials from various Asia-Pacific nations.

This event, organized by Huawei in collaboration with the ASEAN Foundation, saw participation from over 8,600 students representing 14 countries and regions. After competing in categories such as cloud, computing, network, and innovation, more than 160 finalists from 13 nations advanced to the regional finals.

Key attendees included ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Indonesian government officials, representatives from the ASEAN Foundation, and regional stakeholders in the ICT sector.

During his address at the ceremony, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn highlighted the crucial role of developing digital talent to achieve the digital transformation objectives outlined in the ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2030.

The Grand Prize in the Innovation Competition was awarded to the National University of Singapore. Meanwhile, top honors in the Computing and Cloud categories went to teams from the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology. Bulacan State University from the Philippines claimed victory in the Network Track.

Additionally, teams from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Japan, Laos, Timor-Leste, Hong Kong SAR, and Macao SAR received accolades across various competition categories. A total of sixteen teams from the region have qualified for the upcoming global finals set to take place in Shenzhen, China, in June.

At the event, Huawei Asia Pacific announced new initiatives aimed at fostering AI talent and enhancing digital skills training. The company also unveiled a white paper titled “ICT Job Roles and Skills in the Intelligent World,” which was developed in partnership with IDC, the OpenAtom Foundation, and the Global Intelligent Internet of Things Consortium.

This report delves into emerging trends in ICT employment, evolving skill needs within the industry, and training pathways associated with artificial intelligence and intelligent technologies. Furthermore, Huawei introduced updates to its ICT Academy curriculum, incorporating new courses focused on AI for universities and training institutions.

Representatives from Huawei, the ASEAN Foundation, and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) marked a collaborative initiative aimed at advancing AI talent development, empowering youth, and promoting digital inclusion throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Over the last nine years, Huawei has reported that its ICT Academy program in the Asia-Pacific has grown significantly, expanding from two institutions in two countries to over 500 institutions across 18 countries and regions, training more than 160,000 students.
