FINANCIAL CHRONICLE – During a brief visit this week, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s commitment to cooperating with like-minded nations to counter the reemergence of the “law of the jungle” and to resist all forms of power politics and bullying, according to a report by Xinhua.

Wang Yi visited Sri Lanka while transiting and held talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart, Vijitha Herath, on Monday, January 12.

Wang stated that in light of the increasingly complex and volatile international landscape, China is determined to protect the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, particularly small and medium-sized nations. He emphasized China’s dedication to upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and international law, as reported by China’s state news agency.

These remarks from Wang Yi follow recent actions by U.S. President Donald Trump, who oversaw a military invasion of Venezuela and the capture of President Nicolas Maduro. President Trump has also threatened significant military action against Iran for its crackdown on protests and has announced a 25 percent punitive tariff on countries engaging in trade with Iran.

Reaffirming China’s stance, Wang Yi reiterated the nation’s resolve to collaborate with like-minded countries to oppose the resurgence of the “law of the jungle,” resist all forms of power politics and bullying, and to defend multilateralism and international fairness and justice, as reported by Xinhua.
