Citi reaffirmed its dedication to community enhancement by collaborating with ChildFund Sri Lanka to aid Mawela Kanishta Vidyalaya in Wadduwa during the recent Citi Global Community Day 2026, the company’s premier annual volunteer event.
This initiative transcended a mere day of volunteering, as it united Citi employees to foster a more supportive educational environment for students through various school enhancement projects. Volunteers took on tasks such as revitalizing classrooms with fresh paint, producing and restoring colorful wall murals, and upgrading sanitation facilities. A key feature of the day was the donation of a system that provides students with access to clean drinking water, along with other environmentally friendly initiatives.
The event also featured a light-hearted cricket match between Citi volunteers and the students, promoting meaningful interactions and unforgettable moments that extended beyond the tangible improvements to the school facilities.
Ravin Basnayake, Citi’s Country Officer and Banking Head for Sri Lanka, commented on the initiative, stating, “At Citi, we recognize that significant progress starts with robust communities. Global Community Day embodies our commitment to making a positive and enduring difference through the efforts of our volunteers. We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with ChildFund Sri Lanka and the school community to enhance the learning environment for these students.”
This project exemplifies Citi’s enduring commitment to contributing to the communities where it operates. Through Global Community Day, employees globally dedicate their time and expertise to initiatives that fortify local communities and generate lasting social benefits.
