Colombo Stock Exchange Sees Positive Gains on Wednesday with ASPI Rising by 0.69%

The Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) reported a favorable trading day on the 6th of October, with both primary indices closing higher. The All Share Price Index (ASPI) saw an increase of 155.47 points, representing a rise of 0.69%, to finish at 22,739.77. Likewise, the S&P Sri Lanka 20 Index gained 31.89 points, or 0.51%, concluding the session at 6,245.13.

The ASPI’s upward movement was largely attributed to robust performances from several leading blue-chip companies. John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH.N) emerged as the top contributor, adding 10.69 points to the index. Other notable contributors included:

  • Hatton National Bank PLC (HNB.N): +10.67 points
  • Melstacorp PLC (MELS.N): +10.60 points
  • Hayleys PLC (HAYL.N): +8.58 points
  • R I L Property PLC (RIL.N): +6.98 points

The market exhibited strong activity, with a total equity turnover of Rs. 4.13 billion. Domestic investors played a significant role in the trading volume, accounting for 97.3% of the overall turnover. Foreign trading resulted in a net inflow of Rs. 62.4 million, with foreign purchases reaching Rs. 143.9 million, while sales amounted to Rs. 81.5 million.

Citrus Leisure (REEF) and Janashakthi Insurance (JXG) led the market turnover, generating Rs. 415.3 million and Rs. 370.6 million, respectively.
