Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are crucial to the economy of Sri Lanka, providing jobs, enhancing local industries, and fostering regional growth. In an effort to bolster these businesses throughout their development, DFCC Bank has introduced DFCC Pragathi, a comprehensive MSME initiative that consolidates specialized financial offerings, business consulting, and capacity-building programs under a single brand. This approach simplifies the process for entrepreneurs seeking assistance to establish, develop, and expand their ventures.
DFCC Pragathi builds on nearly ten years of experience serving the MSME sector, evolving from the Bank’s dedicated MSME division launched in 2016. Since that time, DFCC Bank has collaborated with over 10,000 entrepreneurs in Sri Lanka, providing support across various sectors, including agriculture, dairy farming, manufacturing, and value-added agricultural products such as tea, cinnamon, pepper, bananas, turmeric, ginger, and rice cultivation.
This initiative aims to extend beyond conventional lending practices by presenting a holistic framework of financial and non-financial resources. DFCC Pragathi integrates customized lending options, value chain financing, financial education programs, business consulting services, and capacity-building efforts, empowering entrepreneurs with both the financial resources and practical advice necessary to establish robust and sustainable enterprises.
The launch also unveiled DFCC Aloka – Pragathi, a targeted financing option aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs within the MSME landscape. This commitment was highlighted at the launch event, where seven women entrepreneurs received funding through the DFCC Aloka – Pragathi Loan Scheme, underscoring the Bank’s dedication to enhancing financial access and creating more opportunities for women-led businesses.
In remarks about the launch, Pradeep Alwis, Vice President and Head of Business Banking at DFCC Bank, stated, “Operating a business today requires more than just access to funding. Entrepreneurs also need practical support, reliable partnerships, and banking solutions that adapt to their evolving needs. DFCC Pragathi combines all these elements into one cohesive offering, allowing us to better assist MSMEs at every phase of their development while contributing to one of Sri Lanka’s most significant economic sectors. Through DFCC Aloka – Pragathi, we are furthering our commitment to empower women entrepreneurs and promote a more inclusive business environment.”
A team of over 75 Pragathi Relationship Officers is dedicated to providing personalized guidance and local expertise to entrepreneurs across the nation. The Bank’s ongoing contributions to the development of MSMEs have garnered both national and international accolades, including prestigious awards from the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific (ADFIAP) and Karlsruhe.
For more than seventy years, DFCC Bank has played a vital role in the economic advancement of Sri Lanka by supporting businesses with growth aspirations. DFCC Pragathi enhances that legacy, reinforcing the Bank’s commitment to empowering entrepreneurs, strengthening MSMEs, and fostering a more resilient and inclusive economy.
