Fostering the ingenuity and vision of the next generation of technology leaders

SLT-MOBITEL recently showcased technological talent at the Grand Finales of the 2026 SLIoT Challenge and the IESL RoboGames, both of which were celebrated as dynamic platforms for young innovators. In alignment with its dedication to advancing the Government’s digital initiatives and fostering future-ready skills among Sri Lankan youth, SLT-MOBITEL partnered with the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) and the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Moratuwa to support these competitions. The events, hosted at the university, aimed to provide an opportunity for young individuals to exhibit their technical abilities.

Designed by SLT-MOBITEL to create an engaging environment for the youth of Sri Lanka, the Grand Finales featured impressive displays of innovation, with participants engaging in spirited competitions that highlighted their creative and technical talents. The events underscored the potential of Sri Lanka’s youth to contribute to the nation’s digital future through their ingenuity and expertise.

With SLT-MOBITEL’s backing, the SLIoT Challenge 2026 allowed school students, university undergraduates, and open-category entrants to showcase potentially transformative projects in the Internet of Things (IoT). Finalists demonstrated their innovations in various exhibition areas including GTN Lab, ICE Room, InsightHub, SLIoT Lab, and Sysco LABS. This event not only celebrated promising new IoT solutions with practical applications but also aligned with SLT-MOBITEL’s broader vision of spearheading Sri Lanka’s technological evolution. Judges conducted evaluations in two phases before announcing the winners.

In the School Category of the SLIoT Challenge 2026, Team Quarista from Royal College, Colombo 7, won with their Smart Waste Management System. The Undergraduate Category was topped by Team Eluvis from the University of Moratuwa for their Smart Shrimp Farm Monitoring System. From the Open Category, RoboticGen Labs distinguished themselves with their design of an Employee Transport Management System.

Equally exciting was the Grand Finale of the RoboGames 2026, which featured competitions across three categories: school, undergraduate, and open contestants. A major highlight was the thrilling BattleBots Challenge, which attracted numerous robotics and technology enthusiasts at the University of Moratuwa. Additionally, there was an open BattleBot Challenge for participants to engage in.

Elizabeth Moir School, represented by Team Controlled Chaos, triumphed in the School Category of the 2026 RoboGames. The Undergraduate Category champion was FalconX from the University of Ruhuna, while Team Ascension claimed victory in the Open Category.

SLT-MOBITEL ensured robust connectivity at both events, providing seamless and high-performance experiences for participants and attendees, reaffirming its status as the fastest and most reliable network in the country.
