Gateway College has successfully acquired the Regent Country Club located in Malabe, marking a significant step towards the development of a cutting-edge international school in one of the most rapidly expanding residential areas in Greater Colombo.
This acquisition is particularly noteworthy as it coincides with a momentous occasion for both Gateway and Prime Lands, which are celebrating their 30th anniversaries this year. This partnership represents a pivotal moment in the evolution of two organizations that have substantially influenced their respective sectors.
The decision to proceed with this transaction follows the Prime Group’s strategic choice to concentrate on its larger development initiatives while enabling the creation of a high-caliber international school in a region where the Group has significantly contributed to residential growth.
The scenic 3.2-acre site is already equipped with various well-maintained amenities, such as a banquet hall, conference rooms, office spaces, a swimming pool, and a gym, providing a solid foundation for constructing a modern educational facility tailored to the needs of a burgeoning community.
Sandamini Perera, Co-Founder and Co-Chairperson of Prime Lands (Pvt) Ltd, noted that Malabe and its vicinity have become some of the most rapidly developing areas in Sri Lanka. “Prime Lands, alongside numerous other developers, has played a vital role in transforming this locality into a highly desirable residential destination for the upper-middle-class demographic of Greater Colombo. We are thrilled to welcome Gateway College to this area, as it will offer residents convenient access to high-quality international education,” she stated.
Dr. Harsha Alles, Chairman of the Gateway Group, expressed gratitude to the Prime Group for their role in facilitating the acquisition through a phased approach, which made the transaction possible. “We are incredibly thankful to the Prime Group for their support throughout this process. Their phased strategy was essential in bringing this significant deal to fruition,” Dr. Alles remarked.
He further emphasized that the new school would enhance Gateway Group’s expanding network of educational institutions, which already includes Gateway Colleges in locations such as Rajagiriya, Kandy, Negombo, Dehiwala, and Ratmalana, as well as Springfield Colleges in Kandy, Borella, and Nugegoda.
All Gateway and Springfield educational institutions operate from expansive campuses featuring state-of-the-art facilities. Additionally, students benefit from shared specialized resources, including a nine-acre sports ground in Seeduwa, a 50-meter swimming pool in Negombo, and a football field in Ratmalana.
“With our guiding vision of Energize, Enlighten, Empower, Gateway is committed to delivering a truly global education within a local context,” Dr. Alles added. “Our aim is to cultivate an environment where young individuals acquire the knowledge, skills, confidence, and values necessary to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.”
