The highly anticipated conclusion of the Global Sri Lankan Kumara Kumariya beauty pageant, renowned for highlighting Sri Lanka’s rich heritage, culture, and tourism, is set to take place on July 31 at the Ramadia Grand Hotel in Moratuwa.
This unique pageant invites youth of Sri Lankan descent, aged between 16 and 32, from around the globe. This year’s event has drawn participants from 13 different nations, including the UK, Northern Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, Australia, Singapore, Oman, Kuwait, India, and Sri Lanka.
Wasanthi Gunarathna, the driving force behind this initiative and a prominent Sri Lankan actress, producer, writer, and entrepreneur, noted that the pageant was established to present Sri Lanka’s cultural richness and tourism opportunities to a wider audience. Gunarathna is recognized for her contributions to productions such as Hima Tharaka (2017) and Nohadan Amme (2004).

She further mentioned that the Sri Lanka Tourism Board has officially endorsed this initiative, emphasizing that the pageant is anticipated to significantly enhance the country’s profile as a tourist hotspot.
Currently, preliminary rounds are being conducted in various cities across Sri Lanka, where the most promising contestants are being selected for the grand finale on July 31.
The top three finalists in both the male and female categories will receive awards and gifts totaling over Rs. 1 million. Additionally, the winners in each category will be granted round-trip tickets to Thailand, along with a complimentary two-night stay with full board.
In an exciting twist, there will also be a popular voting segment, while a distinguished panel of judges will evaluate the contestants to determine the eventual winners.
Kandy Spices Agro (Pvt) Ltd. is the main sponsor of this event. Dr. Ruwan Herath, who serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Kandy Group of Companies, heads this organization, which is dedicated to the production and export of high-quality agricultural and spice products, gaining recognition within the industry.
Gunarathna explained that the newly constructed section of the Ramadia Grand Hotel was chosen as the venue due to its expansive ballroom without pillars, cutting-edge lighting, and modern amenities.
