This International Coffee Day, Ground Theory Coffee Roasters is encouraging enthusiasts to explore the unique flavors of Sri Lankan coffee. The company, based in Colombo, utilizes locally sourced Arabica beans and employs a small-batch roasting technique, contributing a local touch to this worldwide celebration.
Since its inception in 2020, Ground Theory has collaborated closely with green coffee producers to source high-quality beans from Sri Lanka’s central highlands, where Arabica thrives at altitudes exceeding 1,200 meters. Each selection is made with meticulous attention to quality and individuality, ensuring that the roasting process highlights the beans’ distinctive characteristics.
The end product is 100% Sri Lankan Arabica coffee, available for both wholesale and retail clients, suitable for preparation as espresso or filter coffee. Their current offerings feature both wet-processed and naturally processed Arabica, providing coffee aficionados with a diverse starting point to delve into the rich variety of Sri Lankan coffee.
According to Ground Theory (Pvt) Ltd.’s management, “We aim to spark curiosity about Sri Lankan coffee and promote appreciation for its quality.” This journey begins with the careful selection of beans and extends through the roasting process and brewing methods.
The recent relocation to a larger facility signifies an important milestone in the company’s growth. The expanded roasting space allows them to better meet increasing demand while ensuring their commitment to quality, consistency, and small-batch production remains intact.
Ground Theory is supported by the management team of Cauldron & Co, who also operate THE CAULDRON. This partnership provides coffee lovers with an opportunity to savor freshly roasted Sri Lankan coffee at THE CAULDRON, which collaborates with Ground Theory Coffee Roasters.
The company also partners with cafés, restaurants, and barista training institutions, offering tailored assistance that may include barista education and grinder adjustments. Additionally, Ground Theory offers maintenance support for equipment, helping its partners effectively manage the tools essential for their daily coffee service. These initiatives collectively enhance the quality of coffee served by their business associates.
Looking forward, Ground Theory is developing new coffee profiles to expand upon its existing wet-processed and naturally processed Arabica selections. The team is also venturing into new territory with a project currently underway at the roastery.
“We have many avenues to explore, and the development of new profiles is integral to our plans,” the management states. “One particular project is steering us in an exciting new direction, and we are eager to share it once it is fully realized.”
Whether enjoyed at partner cafés such as THE CAULDRON located on Stratford Avenue, Colombo 6, or brewed at home, a cup of Ground Theory coffee offers a uniquely local experience to celebrate International Coffee Day and gain a deeper understanding of Sri Lankan coffee.
