HNB TxB Customers Enjoy Unified Portal Access to Entire LankaPay Government Billing Services

HNB PLC, recognized as Sri Lanka’s premier private bank, has initiated online payment capabilities for all government entities linked to LankaPay’s Online Payment Platform through its Transaction Banking (TxB) platform, effective from September 1, 2026. This enhancement allows all HNB TxB clients in the SME, Business Banking, Emerging Corporates, and Corporate Banking sectors to process payments to government and regulatory agencies via a unified online portal.

The government billers now accessible through HNB TxB encompass entities such as Sri Lanka Customs (Automated System for Customs Data), the Board of Investments, Central Depository Systems, the Department of Commerce, the Department of Fisheries, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, the Employees’ Provident Fund, the Import and Export Control Department, the Inland Revenue Department, the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, and all 306 government institutions associated with GovPay. Clients can now execute payments to these organizations in real-time through a secure channel, eliminating the need for cumbersome manual submissions to each individual institution.

Sanjay Wijemanne, Chief Operating Officer of HNB, stated, “With this new feature, every HNB TxB client, ranging from SMEs to large corporations, can handle their payments to various government institutions and regulatory bodies through a single portal. This solution replaces traditional manual processes with a streamlined online method that enhances speed and simplifies reconciliation. As more government entities transition to fully digital payment systems, our clients can adapt to these changes effortlessly using HNB TxB.”

As the operator of Sri Lanka’s national payment network, LankaPay offers the foundational payment infrastructure for the nation’s financial sector. Its Online Payment Platform facilitates real-time payments to state institutions, particularly for high-value transactions that cannot be processed as standard fund transfers.

Channa de Silva, CEO of LankaPay, remarked, “Launched in 2017, the LankaPay Online Payment Platform was designed to provide both businesses and the public with a secure, real-time method for making payments to government institutions. HNB’s integration of all registered billers into its transaction banking platform is a significant step towards enhancing digital transformation within the public sector and advancing the country’s progress towards a fully digitized economy.”

With numerous government institutions already requiring online payment methods, HNB’s expansion of this platform within its TxB framework aligns with this trend and supports the government’s broader initiative for the digitalization of public payment services.
