HNB Unveils Supiri Weera Jumbo, a New Movie and Cartoon Series, Celebrating 35 Years of HNB Singithi

HNB PLC, the foremost private bank in Sri Lanka, has unveiled “Supiri Weera Jumbo,” marking the first-ever animated series created by a Sri Lankan banking institution. This initiative commemorates the 35th anniversary of HNB Singithi, the nation’s pioneering children’s savings account. The series made its debut at Scope Cinemas located in Havelock City Mall, Colombo 05, on September 29, 2026, and will be accessible on HNB’s official YouTube channel starting October 1, 2026, with weekly episode releases thereafter.

The inaugural season consists of ten episodes and features Jumbo, the bank’s beloved mascot linked to the well-known pink savings box, portrayed as a superhero. The storyline, characters, and visual design were crafted by HNB staff, with six employees contributing their voices to various characters and the theme song. Notable voice actors include Suneth Chithrananda (Chuti malli) as Jumbo, veteran actor Athula Jayasinghe as the main antagonist Rumbo, and Gaminda Priyaviraj (Podi Malli) voicing the villain Dadonis. The animation direction was led by Visual X, while DC Productions managed the sound and dubbing aspects.

The narratives within the series are designed to impart essential values such as friendship, loyalty, and perseverance to a younger audience. Through Jumbo’s superhero persona, the series illustrates to children that positive outcomes arise from patience and diligent effort, akin to the practice of saving money.

Upul Adikari, HNB’s Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications, stated, “For 35 years, HNB Singithi has been integral to the savings habits of families in Sri Lanka. Supiri Weera Jumbo embodies the principles that Singithi has consistently promoted, like patience, discipline, and regularity, in a manner that children can connect with daily. The narrative conveys a vital lesson about the gradual path to goodness, similar to the discipline of saving. Creating this series with our own team was a conscious decision, allowing HNB to forge a lasting connection with young customers and their families, extending beyond traditional banking and educational environments.”

HNB Singithi provides savings accounts for children from birth, and throughout its 35-year history, the bank has set up over 160 school savings units across the island. HNB staff engage with students through various savings initiatives in schools.

The series launch coincides with Singithi Savings Month in October, an event organized by HNB that takes place between World Children’s Day and World Thrift Day, aimed at educating children on the importance of saving.

Supiri Weera Jumbo represents a groundbreaking endeavor within the Sri Lankan banking landscape, extending HNB Singithi’s 35-year legacy of promoting children’s savings from the classroom into the homes of Sri Lankan families, thereby establishing a viable platform for connecting with the next generation of savers.
