HUTCH Strengthens ESG Dedication with Rajawaka Rainforest Renewal Initiative

HUTCH Sri Lanka is reinforcing its dedication to environmental sustainability through its ongoing rainforest restoration project at the Rajawaka Forest Reserve in Balangoda. In collaboration with Rainforest Protectors Sri Lanka, this initiative marks its third consecutive year of implementation. In this latest phase, around 500 native plants were planted over half an acre of degraded land within the Rajawaka Forest Reserve. The choice of indigenous species aims to facilitate the natural regeneration of the forest ecosystem, improve habitat conditions, and bolster local biodiversity protection. A significant aspect of this program is the engagement of employees, underscoring HUTCH’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its corporate culture.

This initiative is in line with Sri Lanka’s national sustainability goals, as the nation strives for carbon neutrality by 2050, despite currently not achieving this target. In this context, CK Hutchison Holdings, a Global Fortune 500 company, plays an essential role through its subsidiary HUTCH Sri Lanka in promoting sustainable development, thereby delivering socio-economic benefits to local communities and businesses.

In addition to the rainforest initiative, HUTCH is progressively enhancing its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, which include projects focused on renewable energy, circular economy retail, e-SIM technology, reforestation, and environmental sanitation, all contributing to the country’s shift towards a sustainable future.
