An International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, headed by Mission Chief Evan Papageorgiou, is set to arrive in Sri Lanka for a visit scheduled from September 10 to September 23. The purpose of this visit is to evaluate the nation’s economic advancements and the progress of its structural reforms.
This two-week mission will prioritize two key goals: conducting the Seventh Review of Sri Lanka’s reform program, which is supported by the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility (EFF), and executing the 2026 Article IV Consultation to analyze the country’s economic trends, policies, and overall stability.
Throughout their stay, the IMF team intends to meet with Sri Lankan officials and engage with a wide range of stakeholders. The discussions will delve into recent economic developments, the execution of the reform agenda, and the long-term structural challenges that Sri Lanka faces.
In a public statement, Evan Papageorgiou expressed optimism for “constructive discussions” and assured that the team would present its findings and conclusions upon the conclusion of their visit.
