The North Western Provincial Office of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), in partnership with Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, conducted a successful seminar focused on “Export Procedures, Costing and Pricing, and Financial Facilities” for aspiring exporters and entrepreneurs on May 27, 2026, at the District Secretariat Auditorium in Kurunegala.
This initiative aimed to foster the growth of export-oriented businesses in the North Western Province by enhancing their understanding and capabilities to engage in international trade.
The seminar’s main goal was to raise awareness and build the capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and potential exporters, thereby aiding their entry into export markets through a better grasp of export processes, financial management, and available banking services.
The event brought together 59 SME representatives and 16 Export Development Officers, establishing a robust forum for knowledge exchange, awareness enhancement, and technical assistance regarding export development.
Two industry experts led the program, sharing their valuable insights and practical knowledge. Mr. Rienzie Cooray, Managing Director of Worldwide Logistics Lanka (Pvt) Ltd and a certified “Export Management Coach” by the International Trade Centre (ITC), conducted an extensive session on export procedures, documentation, and the practicalities of international trade operations. Additionally, Mr. Sumith Jayasena, Senior Manager at the Exports Department of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, offered critical insights into export financing, payment terms in global trade, and financial solutions available to exporters.
Attendees gained practical knowledge regarding export documentation prerequisites, costing and pricing strategies for export goods, as well as financial instruments and banking support systems that can aid export operations.
This initiative showcases the continued efforts of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board to enhance export capabilities at a regional level through strategic alliances with financial institutions. The collaboration between the EDB and Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC underscores their dedication to supporting emerging exporters and boosting their role in national export growth.
