Janashakthi Insurance PLC has announced the addition of Hasitha Leanage and Hugh Terry as Independent Non-Executive Directors on its Board, effective April 20, 2026.
Hasitha Leanage brings over 15 years of experience in corporate finance with a strong foundation in actuarial science, particularly within the life insurance sector, strategic advisory, and capital markets. Throughout his career, he has provided strategic guidance to boards, stakeholders, and shareholders on various matters including mergers and acquisitions, optimizing capital structures, restructuring balance sheets, and fostering long-term value across multiple industries.
Leanage began his professional journey at Insight Services in Colombo, where he focused on developing actuarial models, valuation systems, and business strategies for major insurers such as Union Assurance PLC and Thai Life Insurance. He later joined AXA Life in the UK, contributing to product pricing, embedded value assessments, statutory valuations, and solvency evaluations. In 2013, he co-founded Accede Capital, a financial and strategic advisory firm based in Colombo, where he currently serves as Director.
He holds a First-Class Honours degree in Mathematics with Actuarial Science from the University of Southampton in the UK and is a recipient of a scholarship from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries Charitable Trust. His experience spans actuarial consulting, pricing, solvency analysis, and financial strategy in both Sri Lanka and the UK, enhancing the Board’s capabilities in steering Janashakthi Life towards future growth.
Hugh Terry is an accomplished insurance expert with over three decades of global experience, focusing on digital transformation, innovation, and business development within the sector. He is the Founder and CEO of The Digital Insurer, a worldwide platform that assists insurance professionals and organizations in adapting to technology-driven changes.
As a qualified actuary, Terry has taken on various roles in operations, consulting, and entrepreneurship within the insurance industry and has spent more than 25 years in Singapore, collaborating closely with insurers across Asia and other international markets. His expertise in insurance, digital advancements, and global market dynamics will significantly enrich the Board’s knowledge base.
With these recent appointments, the Janashakthi Insurance Board now includes Chairperson Annika Senanayake, Deputy Chairman Prakash Schaffter, Directors S. Renganathan, Warini de Costa, Ramesh Schaffter, Dr. Nishan de Mel, Dr. Gehan Gunatilleke, Dilip de S Wijeyeratne, along with Independent Non-Executive Directors Hasitha Leanage and Hugh Terry, and Director/CEO Ravi Liyanage.
These new appointments reflect Janashakthi Insurance’s commitment to harnessing diverse expertise in order to enhance resilience and promote innovation within the insurance industry.
The appointments have been communicated to the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, and the necessary documentation for formal approval will be submitted shortly.
