JAT Unveils Strategic Plan for Mirotone Acquisition with Return to Australian Market

JAT Holdings PLC has initiated the re-entry of Mirotone NZ Limited into the Australian market through its subsidiary, Mirotone Australia Pty Ltd, just seven months after finalizing the acquisition. This development represents an early step in translating the growth strategy shared with investors during the acquisition into actionable results, emphasizing the Group’s commitment to a disciplined approach following the acquisition.

In October 2025, JAT completed its acquisition of Mirotone, a well-established industrial wood coatings brand with a 90-year legacy in the Australasian region. Australia has been identified as a significant growth area for Mirotone, particularly after a hiatus in the brand’s market presence. The decision to reintroduce Mirotone to Australia is part of JAT’s overarching strategy to revitalize brand growth and generate value from the acquisition.

The initial focus of this re-entry is on Queensland, where several former Mirotone clients, including cabinet makers and contract applicators, have already been engaged. This early involvement highlights a clear demand for Mirotone’s products and underscores the brand’s ongoing recognition among professionals in the sector.

This initiative is not only pivotal for the brand’s revival but also for the long-term stability of JAT’s business model. By enhancing its international revenue streams, the Group anticipates improved performance in foreign markets, which will contribute to currency revenue generation and reduce dependency on any single market.

Nishal Ferdinando, CEO of JAT Holdings PLC, commented on this significant milestone, stating, “Australia was identified as a key opportunity within Mirotone’s growth strategy, and our prompt re-entry within seven months of acquisition demonstrates our disciplined execution. In the coatings industry, sustained value is derived from brand strength and robust R&D. Mirotone has a strong brand presence in Australia, while JAT provides the necessary research and development, innovation capabilities, and operational infrastructure to leverage that strength for sustainable growth. This is a crucial step in fulfilling the strategy we outlined to our investors, as we aim to develop a more geographically diverse business with enhanced international revenue streams.”

The re-entry strategy is bolstered by the complementary strengths of Mirotone’s established market presence and JAT’s operational capabilities. Mirotone’s legacy brand is recognized in Australia, while JAT contributes its manufacturing discipline, technical expertise, procurement acumen, and backward integration through its facilities in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Together, these advantages facilitate reliable supply chains, responsive customer service, and strengthened technical support for professionals in Australia.

Leading the re-establishment of Mirotone in Australia is General Manager Mark Poole, who brings extensive experience with the brand and expertise in the global coatings industry. With 25 years at Mirotone and senior roles throughout Asia and Australasia, Poole is well-positioned to enhance customer relations, rebuild technical trust, and re-establish the brand’s market presence in Australia.

The initial product offerings will focus on professional and industrial wood coatings, backed by product testing, tinting support, and proactive technical collaboration with selected clients. This approach aims to enhance color accuracy, consistency, and finishing reliability as Mirotone works to regain its foothold in the market.

Mark Poole stated, “Having collaborated with Mirotone for many years, it is significant to participate in the brand’s return to Australia. Our customers are familiar with the products and have strong recollections of the consistency, ease of use, and finish quality that Mirotone provides. Our immediate goal is to rebuild that trust through dependable supply, effective technical support, and close engagement with our initial customers in Queensland, before broadening our reach.”

Following the initial phase in Queensland, Mirotone Australia intends to expand further within the state and subsequently into New South Wales, Victoria, and a wider distributor-led strategy across Australia. This phased approach will enable the company to rebuild market presence in a controlled and sustainable manner, starting with customers where there is already demand before extending the brand’s influence into other key markets.

The re-entry into Australia is a vital component of the larger Mirotone growth strategy, which includes product innovation, expansion in developed coatings markets, and enhanced coordination among operations in Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Australia. This initiative also aligns with JAT’s long-term vision of establishing a stronger regional and international platform based on its core competencies in coatings, surface solutions, manufacturing, and technological innovation. For JAT, this milestone signifies the successful transformation of acquisition-driven growth into tangible commercial success, revitalizing Mirotone while fortifying the Group’s long-term international business objectives.
