Laptop.lk and Technocity Pvt Ltd have achieved a notable accomplishment with the inauguration of a cutting-edge AI IT Laboratory at Ananda College in Chilaw. This newly established facility is equipped with 25 high-performance desktop computers, each featuring Intel® Core™ i5 processors, along with contemporary furnishings, a 75-inch Technoview AI Smart Board, multifunction printers, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. Together, these resources create a comprehensive digital learning environment tailored for students’ future needs.
The AI IT laboratory was realized through an investment of around LKR 10 million. Initially, the organizations committed to providing LKR 20 million in cash and LKR 30 million worth of IT resources. However, after conducting thorough assessments in partnership with the Prime Minister’s Office, the extent of assistance was significantly broadened to align with the actual requirements of the schools. Consequently, the total value of the IT equipment supplied rose to LKR 60 million, bringing the overall contribution from Laptop.lk and Technocity Pvt Ltd to LKR 80 million as part of the “Rebuilding Sri Lanka” initiative.
The inauguration ceremony featured Mr. Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Famy Ismail, Chairman of both Technocity Pvt Ltd and Laptop.lk Pvt Ltd, served as the Guest of Honor, joined by Mr. Kadeer, Director of Technocity Pvt Ltd, and Mr. Hemal Chandrathne, Head of Services. The event was attended by students, faculty, and other esteemed guests, marking this significant achievement.
During his address at the ceremony, Chairman Famy Ismail emphasized the transformative role of technology in education, stating, “Technology is the gateway to opportunity. By providing schools with advanced AI IT resources, we are not merely supplying computers; we are equipping students with the means to aspire higher, learn more effectively, and create brighter futures for themselves and for Sri Lanka.”
The establishment of this AI IT laboratory reinforces Technocity’s commitment to promoting educational equity and aiding in the long-term recovery and development of Sri Lanka.
