Microsoft announced on Wednesday its plan to invest $50 billion by the end of the decade to expand artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives across countries in the ‘Global South’.

This announcement was made during the AI summit held in New Delhi, where top executives from leading AI companies convened with several world leaders.

The term ‘Global South’ typically refers to developing, emerging, or lower-income countries, primarily located in the southern hemisphere.

Last year, Microsoft revealed AI investments totaling $17.5 billion in India, underscoring the U.S. tech giant’s commitment to one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets.
